The 4 Elements
 Air - Fire - Water - Earth

 

These 4 elements have a basis in both western & eastern systems of science & spirituality, in both matter & energy, in both ancient & modern times. Cultures differentiated by numerous tribes or religions place significance on these elements in their own way. They are fundamental to our existence, no matter our beliefs or perspective and as such, are unifying forces.


In ancient Greek thought, in Chinese & Japanese philosophy and in other belief systems, these

4 elements have been known variously as the building blocks of all physical existence, representations of the

4 directions, the 4 groups of astrological signs, the 4 different human temperaments, the 4 (or 5 in Chinese theory

& medicine) energies of the universe. In some Native American tribes,

All these elements have incredible power and are life-sustaining. They are capable of 

gentle nurturance and immense destruction. 

Following are some of their characteristics.

Air

Air represents - 

  • our breath

  • the direction east

  • astrologocal signs Gemini, Libra & Aquarius 

 

Water - like humans, it's healthier when it moves, changes/reacts to its envirnoment (Emoto), over time shapes its environment and adapts to space it has

 

Earth - our life foundation, literally. supports us
